Honest bids. Quality craftsmanship. No surprise change orders. Shasta County's trusted choice for kitchen remodels, bathroom renovations, and home additions — with pricing you can count on from start to finish.
About Houchin Construction
In Shasta County, finding a licensed contractor who does quality work shouldn't feel like winning the lottery. But too many homeowners have learned the hard way that the "contractor" who quoted half the price ends up costing twice as much when the change orders start piling up.
Joel Houchin built his reputation the old-fashioned way — by showing up on time, shooting straight about what a project really needs, and delivering work that clients are proud to show off. When a handyman leaves a job half-done or botched, Joel is the one homeowners trust to make it right.
Other contractors lowball their bids, then hit you with change order after change order until you've paid more than you budgeted. Joel's approach is different: get the bid right the first time. Change orders are a last resort — not a business model. When they do happen, it's usually because the scope changed or something unexpected was discovered behind a wall. No surprises, just upfront pricing from the start.

Client Reviews
Our business is built on referrals. Here's why people recommend Houchin Construction.
"After getting burned by a handyman who left our bathroom half-finished, we were nervous to hire anyone else. Joel came in, assessed the damage, and not only fixed the mess but finished the remodel better than we'd imagined. Finally, a contractor we can trust."
"Joel is honest about what things cost and why. No surprises, no upsells. When he found an issue behind our kitchen wall, he showed us exactly what was going on and gave us options. That kind of straight talk is rare."
"We had a structural issue that two other contractors said couldn't be fixed without tearing down the whole wall. Joel figured out a solution that saved us thousands and actually improved the layout. The guy is a problem-solver."
"The quality of work speaks for itself. Our neighbors keep asking who did our deck. It's been three years and it still looks brand new. You can tell Joel takes pride in what he builds."
